Although Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai had
announced on Saturday that the official report on the 5 May helicopter tragedy
that killed Datuk Noriah Kasnon and five others will only be ready in a month,
recent news has emerged of a possibility of a lightning strike.
Yesterday villagers near Sri Aman which is located some 46km
from the crash site in Sebuyau have told a local Malay news daily of seeing a
helicopter being struck by lightning on the afternoon of 5 May.
Recalling the incident, a villager named Mona Lipek, 40,
reported seeing a convoy of four helicopters flying towards Sebuyau while
resting on her verandah at about 4pm last Thursday.
"The village was hit by heavy rainstorm, lightning and
thunder," the villager from Kampung Seduku recalled.
"While seated outside, I sighted 4 helicopters flying
together as if in a convoy.
"During that time, I saw a flash of lightning appear to
hit one of the helicopters in the convoy causing it to become unstable,"
she described the incident, Kosmo reported…
